At just 16 years old, August “Auggie” Perry is already building a foundation for his future thanks to the support of the Central Region Youth Program and the opportunities provided through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) and the Career Opportunity Training for Youth (COTY).

Auggie recently completed a work experience placement through MO Parks Inc. at Bennett Spring State Park, where he served as a store clerk. From the very beginning, he stood out. His eagerness to learn, positive attitude, and strong work ethic impressed both his supervisors and customers. Auggie quickly adapted to the role, balancing the demands of stocking shelves, assisting with inventory, and helping guests with ease.

Because of his performance, Auggie was offered continued employment beyond his initial placement—proof of how his dedication and reliability have paid off. He is also stepping into new opportunities, including assisting with fly fishing instruction, where he is able to combine his love for the outdoors with valuable new skills.

The Central Region Youth Program exists to help young people like Auggie explore career paths, gain real-world experience, and build confidence for the future. With supportive mentorship, meaningful work opportunities, and his own determination, Auggie is proving that success can start at any age.

Auggie’s story reminds us that when youth are given the right tools and support, they don’t just take steps toward their future—they leap.
