Before connecting with the Southeast Workforce Development Region Job Center, Joshua found himself in a situation many hardworking people recognize—unemployed, living with his sister, and facing barriers that made moving forward feel out of reach.
Joshua had previously worked through Manpower but had lost his job. He knew he needed new skills that would provide stability, self-sufficiency, and a career with a real future. That determination led him to enroll in the Dislocated Worker and Quest programs in August 2025.
Joshua decided to pursue his Class A CDL and worked hard to complete his training. By combining Quest and Dislocated Worker funding, his Career Coach assisted with tuition and support services that helped Joshua overcome several barriers that could have prevented him from finishing. Assistance was provided for his vehicle insurance, vehicle payment, and transportation to St. Ann, Missouri, where he took his CDL examination.
Joshua successfully completed truck driver training and obtained his new driver’s license on October 16, 2025.
On December 2, 2025, Joshua began working for Southern Illinois Motor Xpress. He now has a dedicated local route and is home every night. His new position provides benefits including a 401(k), health insurance, dental insurance, and vision insurance—and the financial stability he had been working toward. Best of all, Joshua has been able to move out of his sister’s home and is now living independently.
His hard work quickly earned recognition. In April, Joshua was named Employee of the Week, an accomplishment he is extremely proud of.
Reflecting on his experience, Joshua shared, “Due to my good work ethic and reliability, my boss gives me extra work and hours and lots of the better runs. I’m so grateful for my job and the help your public service has provided. I could not have done it without you guys!”
