Cierra came to the Western Missouri Job Center seeking support to earn her HiSET and pursue her goal of becoming a Spanish interpreter. Working closely with her Career Coach, she overcame several barriers and began attending Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) classes at State Fair Community College to prepare for the High School Equivalency Test.
Her hard work paid off—Cierra graduated from the program on May 17 and was selected to speak at the graduation ceremony. She also received a $500 AEL scholarship to help fund her college education at State Fair Community College.
With the help of WIOA Supportive Services, Cierra received assistance with car repairs, allowing her to travel to and from her classes. The program also covered the cost of her HiSET exam. She continues to work in the restaurant industry and plans to begin classes at State Fair Community College in Fall 2025.
